MARINE PARK & Minor Islands in Sporades

These islands have no port or docks to moor, they are all uninhabited, so make sure you have provisions, water supplies, and fuel and DO NOT FORGET to check at the nearest Port Police department about possible restrictions in entering particular areas. The bay of Planitis is really a must spot at Kyra-Panagia (or so-called Pelagos) island.

Useful and detailed information on the Marine Park you can check at http://www.alonissos-park.gr

The area consists of the islands/islets of:

Piperi, a very important island for the survival of the Mediterranean Monk Seal and at the same time it is the most inaccessible island as it has no protected bay for the approach of a yacht.

Kyra-Panagia offers two large natural bays: Ayios Petros in the West and Planitis in the East. When North winds blow yachts can shelter in the protected bay of Ayios Petros. Who has visited this place during a yacht charter or a sailing holiday, will simply never forget it.

Yioura, It is possible to land on the island only at one small bay in the South-west. From there, there is a steep path to the Cyclops’ cave and the Evangelistria church. on the western coast, where there is only an anchorage, near the spring Platania, the ruins of a temple, possibly dedicated to the God Poseidon, have been found.

Peristera, WEST & RIGHT OPPOSITEONISSOS ISLAND for all its smallness Peristera has a number of excellent beaches, among them the bays of Kokkalias, Vasiliko, Kephali, Peristeri, Kounoupas, Livadakia, Kalamakia, Tarsanades, Xylo and Spasmeni

Psathoura, The island is volcanic in origin and its tropical beach, perhaps the most beautiful in the Sporades.  Its dark colour and its flatness a mere 10-14 metres above sea level. In the sandy depths off the coast there are sunken buildings, which take one back to some ancient sunken city. Attention should be driven by all charter yachts and other boats when anchoring. It is said that it the area is amongst the best ones in Greece for snorkelling.

Skyropoula, rocky uninhabited island. Smaller sailing yachts and speed motor boats can approach in 2-3 spectacular small caves side by side to unique forms of rocks.

Skantzoura, protected as a national marine park and home of the indangered seal monk ( Monachus-Monachus).
